On Friday 15th November at 12:00pm we spoke to Paul about London’s Olympic legacy, its design impact and opportunities offered to the hospitality industry and investors.
Paul Finch is deputy chairman of the UK Design Council, chairman of Design Council CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment), programme director of the World Architecture Festival and editorial director of the Architectural Review and Architects’ Journal. He went into journalism in 1972, working in various capacities on Building Design (BD) and its sister paper, Estate Times (now Property Week). From 2005 he chaired CABE’s Olympic design review panel, as well as serving on separate panels reviewing the Olympic village and the Westfield shopping centre at Stratford. Paul was made an honorary fellow of RIBA in 1994 and an honorary member of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales in 1996; in 2002 he was made OBE for services to architecture. He has also been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Westminster and is an honorary fellow of University College London. He joins us for this exclusive Twitter chat ahead of his appearance at the Sleep conference on 20 November in a seminar titled ‘Pure Gold – London’s Olympic Legacy’.

Czech designer Maxim Velcovsky is well known for his work with glass and porcelain. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich or the Mudac in Lausanne. He won the Czech Designer of the Year award for his work in 2007 and best commission of the year 2008 by Wallpaper magazine. Since 2011 he became art director at Lasvit - a leading designer and manufacturer of custom made contemporary light fittings and award-winning lighting collections exhibiting at Sleep 2013!
