Nigel Coates - Room One
Nigel Coates - 2014 Sleep Set Room
“Home from home, or a step up from the banal reality of travel? A successful hotel room should be both. Instead of starting from our usual curvy forms, we chose Feral, one of our more “Cubist’ designs, as the generator for the entire room. We want a ‘simplex’ living space that encourages each individual hotel guest to discover his or her own way of living.”

Nigel Coates is one of Britain’s consistently original thinkers in architecture, interior and product design. He has continued to explore the communicative and experiential potential of architecture as a language drawn from the commonplace.
Beyond his many buildings and interiors in the UK and in Japan, Nigel Coates now focuses on the artful end of architecture and design. His products have been realised by many Italian companies including Gebrüder Thonet, Fornasetti, Alessi and Slamp where he art directs.
